I'm going to bludgeon Steve's parents with something heavy and dull if they don't stop fucking calling my house at 11:15 at night! I'm sorry I forgot to have Steve call you. Yes, I know the weather is bad. Don't you think I would call you if something bad had happened to him?! If you wake my baby up, I'm going to be severely pissed off.
Retail therapy
Jan. 4th, 2008 11:04 pmSteve is playing Guitar Hero III right now, and the strumming of the guitar is soooooooo annoying! He's wearing headphones so that he can hear the music louder, so I can basically only hear the strumming. Blah.
Owen and I went down to hang out with my mom today. After some thinking, and no patience, we all headed over to Old Navy for some retail therapy. Here's the loot pile.

Recommendations please!
Jan. 3rd, 2008 11:20 amI need three recommendations, and I'm hoping you could all help me out.
1. Mesh feeder - I bought a pair of these for Owen, and was wondering what kinds of foods you put in there for your kids? So far, I've put bananas and avocado in there, and he loves it, but I'm looking for other things too. Thanks!
2. Books - Since so many of you are such voracious readers, I thought I could use a little help. I know that a lot of you are planning to read 50 books this year, which is awesome. I'd be lucky to get in 12, but I'd like to try. I don't want to get into any hardcore reading, but something fun and relatively light might be nice once in a while. Any fabulous book recommendations?
3. I have $120 in cash right now that I can spend on whatever I want. I was thinking of either buying some new clothes at Old Navy, or buying the least expensive Disneyland annual pass. I'm not a massage/mani/pedi/facial kind of girl, so I wouldn't use it towards that, but if you had $120 burning a hole in your pocket, what would you do with it?
Thanks!

An extra to the intro post
Jan. 2nd, 2008 08:06 amAlrighty, since a few of you brought it up, I'll add to my intro post that Steve and I were on Dr. Phil! I was bugging him to start a family, and apparently, I was bugging him so much that he decided to write a letter to Dr. Phil about it. It was a lot of fun, and I guess it ultimately helped us get to where we are today. I wrote him an email when I was about 6 months pregnant with Owen, but never heard back from the show. I guess they don't care about updates, boo.
Here are some links to past journal entries about the show!

Just a few notes
Jan. 1st, 2008 09:13 pmDear self,
Great job with dinner the last two nights! But holy crap, enough with the damn candy!
Dear Steve,
I never did get to sleep in, and now you go back to work tomorrow. Thanks for nothing. And thanks for taking out the trash.
Dear Owen,
Thank you for sleeping through the night the last two nights. Feel like doing it again? If you do, I'll buy you a new car. Oh wait, did I say you? I meant me :).
Dear Crock Pot,
I love you.

Resolutions for 2008
Dec. 31st, 2007 10:44 pmHere we go!
1. Make more of an effort to cook for my family
2. Stop eating so much candy (I'm really not a sweets person, but this year has been out of control)
3. Not watch so much TV during the day, and just turn it off
4. Spend more quality time with Owen (with said TV off)
5. Get out of the house at least 5 days a week with Owen
6. Have more patience with Steve
7. Give Steve more lovin'
8. Take some time for myself
I'm going to keep them relatively simple this year so that I may actually accomplish one or two :p.

Happy New Year!
Dec. 31st, 2007 03:05 pmI want to wish all of my old and new friends a happy and safe new year! We're keeping it mellow, like we do every year; just staying home. I'm cooking some pulled pork in my Crock Pot (I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOO happy I finally found it!), so I'm looking forward to a tasty dinner (Tara, I believe this is your recipe from the CC Crock Pot thread).
Be safe! Designate a driver!
I'll do an intro post some time in the next couple of days so that my new friends can get to know me.

6 month WBV
Dec. 31st, 2007 11:25 amOwen had his 6 month well-baby visit today. Here are his stats:
Height - 27 inches (up from 26 1/4 inches)
Weight - 19lb 3oz (up from 18lb 11oz)
Head circumference - 44cm (up from 42cm)
I'm surprised that he had such little weight gain this time, considering he gained 6 pounds between his last two appointments. He's still growing though, so I'm happy :). I'm also happy that he'll be able to play in his swing and Jumperoo for that much longer too. He got two shots today, and only screamed for a few seconds. He's now napping in his swing, so I am taking the opportunity to come on here and post pictures.

Every single day this week, I've either asked, yelled, or bitched at Steve to get up in the morning with Owen so that I could sleep in. He's been off work all this week, and I've been sick, so sleeping in would've been really nice. But no, he has decided that his sleep is more important every single day. His excuse? "I don't do well with Owen waking up every few hours; I need uninterrupted sleep." We all need uninterrupted sleep jackass, but some of us have to deal with not getting it. Too bad, so sad. I'm soooooooo pissed! I mean, I really lit into him yesterday, and even though I was mad at him, I got him lunch when Owen and I went for a walk, and I stayed up until 1am playing Rock Band with him because he wanted me to play. No more favors for him!

Recap of sorts
Dec. 28th, 2007 09:43 pmI hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! My house was packed with people, but it ended up pretty good. I woke up that morning feeling like ass, but managed to trudge through with only a minor meltdown in the privacy of my bathroom. My name was being called every 30 seconds and after a while, I just couldn't handle it anymore.
We got up in the morning, and headed to our guest room to open up gifts. Highly unorthodox, yes, but we couldn't leave the gifts under the tree because the cats would tear them open, so we put everything in there. I got some great stuff, including:
Pajamas
$50 in iTunes gift cards
Grey's Anatomy trivia game
Wind ornament to hang outside
Chill mat and USB keyboard for my laptop
A bunch of collage picture frames
A cheap digital camera to keep in my diaper bag
A funny book about neurotic cats
2 Nintendo DS video games, and pen styluses (styli?)
Steve loved his gifts, and laughed about the Blue Man Group tickets, because he was going to get me a pair too, so he cheated and looked at the credit card bill. From my parents, I got a few sweaters and a really kick ass ticket to see Phantom of the Opera, woo hoo! This will be my 4th time seeing it. I also got some little verbal and brain challenge cards, a plushy robe, and a flash drive to store my pictures of Owen. My brother LOVED his R2-D2, yay!
Everyone started showing up around 1 or 1:30, and we had already set up the tables and chairs the night before, so we were ready to roll. My stupid cousins ended up not showing up, hooray! I wasn't surprised that they didn't, and was very happy. Since I was feeling icky, my aunt helped run the show, since she's a seasoned veteran at hosting holiday family gatherings. Thank God for her. As I mentioned earlier, I had a meltdown at one point and had to escape so that I could cry, ugh. Plus, we had 3 tables set up, and only one of them ended up being used, as it was a really nice day, so half of the people ended up eating outside. Fine by me! We still have tons of dishes left in the aftermath, but we took the tree and all the decorations down on Wednesday, so the house is back to normal.

Merry Christmas everyone! Owen is 6 months old today, wow!
At 6 months, Owen:
* Is still 100% bf
* Eats every 1 1/2 to 2 hours, and we can sometimes stretch it out to 3
* Eats oatmeal cereal for dinner
* Has tried squash, sweet potatoes, peas, green beans, and carrots
* Loves the sweet potatoes, is okay with the squash and carrots, but hates the peas and green beans
* Wakes up anywhere from 2-4 times a night, and can't fall back asleep unless I nurse him (must break him of this!)
* Rolls from belly to back like a pro, but always gets stuck on his shoulder trying to go from back to belly
* Still has only 2 teeth, but is constantly drooling and chomping on things
* Loves to babble and talk
* Says something that sounds like "am" or "ama" when he wants me, but I'm hesitant to call it his first word
* Can sit unsupported for up to 30 seconds at a time
* Enjoys going for walks in the Moby Wrap
* Loves to play with his feet
* Laughs like crazy when I put his feet up to his face
* Loves to scream and squeal
* Has started making clicking noises with his tongue
* Still prefers mommy over daddy (he's a mama's boy for sure)
* Has finally noticed the cats and likes to pet them (i.e. grab fistfuls of fur)
* Still fits into some 3-6 month clothes, and fits well in 6 month Carter's clothes
* Wears a size 3 diaper
I'm proud to say that I've accomplished my initial goal of breastfeeding for 6 months, woo hoo :D! I think I'll go for 9 next :).

Not only did I not wake up feeling fantastic, I also slept like crap last night because Owen kept waking up. I have no idea what time Steve came to bed last night, but he's being a total ass right now, bitching that everyone is making so much noise because Owen was talking in his crib. Oh, I'm so sorry sir, we didn't mean to disturb you. But since you're up, why don't you get up with your kid so that I, the one who is sick, can get some sleep and not feel like shit on Christmas Day. What? You can't? Gee, that's too bad. Here I was thinking he was your kid too.
Oh no you don't!
Dec. 22nd, 2007 08:40 pmI fear I may be getting sick. Fantastic. I've got a nearly 6-month-old baby, and I'm hosting Christmas for 23 people, 1/4 of whom I did not invite. I CANNOT be sick right now, blah. My ears hurt and my throat hurts. I will cross my fingers that I wake up feeling fabulous tomorrow.
If I don't end up sick right now, I'm sure it will only be a matter of time before I do get sick. Today, as I was standing in line to get lunch at Jack in the Box (I probably deserve it for eating such horrible food), this lady was standing in line behind me, holding her daughter, who sounded like she was dying of something awful. She had the most horrible cough, and every time she started barking, I inched forward in line just a little bit, hoping to avoid the fallout. I took my sweatshirt off as soon as I got home, and seriously contemplated taking a shower. And then that stupid lady sat down in a booth next to a woman with two young kids, one of which was a baby. Hello!

Lethal lovey
Dec. 21st, 2007 08:31 amRemember that lovey that my friend Rhonda gave Owen the other day? Well, he has a little bowtie, and before giving it to Owen, I tugged on it to make sure it was secure. This morning, I looked in his crib, and the bowtie had come off! Holy shit, can we say choking hazard?! Mommy was none too pleased.
In other news, tonight is Steve's work holiday party at his boss' house. I really look forward to this every year. His boss is an amazing cook, so there's always a lot of good food, and I like the people that Steve works with. They do a white elephant gift exchange, and there is this red plastic lobster that's been passed around for nearly 20 years, it's so funny. We ended up with it a couple of years ago, and gave it back the next year. Good times. Owen has also been invited, and I'm sure he'll be the star of the show; his boss can't wait to hold him :).
Speaking of stealing the show, Steve really doesn't want my cousins coming to Christmas. He wants this year to be the Owen show, but because they are so loud and obnoxious, and have a new baby who's 2 1/2 months old, he's afraid that won't happen. Believe me, I don't want them coming either, but my grandma has already done the damage, and now we have to suffer the consequences. It totally sucks. But it's not worth it to make waves and uninvite them. People will end up getting mad, and I will forever burn in etiquette hell for it. Plus, they have nowhere else to go. Apparently, they're not getting along with his mom (my aunt), so they won't be spending time with her, even though she lives in the same city. Now they'll be driving about an hour to see us. Blah.
