Super Bowl and stuff

I'm a little bummed that the Patriots lost. I don't actually care for football, but Steve is a big Pats fan, and I was really hoping they'd make it to 19-0. Ah well, life goes on. We had Steve's friend Donovann and his wife over, as well as my brother. It was a nice, small gathering, but Donovann is super loud, louder than Steve, so Owen got spooked a few times.

Speaking of Owen, little man has been cranky the past couple of days. I don't know what's going on with him. His teeth have come through, so I don't think that's it, and he isn't sick or feverish or anything. Maybe he's just having a few bad days. I hope gets past them soon though, because my patience is wearing a little thin.

Last week, at one of the moms group meetups, we went to South Coast Plaza, which is a higher-end mall (Saks, Nordies, and Bloomingdales, but they also have a Sears) to have lunch and walk around. A group of 5 or so of us decided to walk into the Jimmy Choo store with our babies and strollers, and oh my God, it was hilarious. The salesmen just stared at us with these scared smiles on their faces. It was priceless.

One of the girls in my moms group has some artistic talent, and showed me some dinosaurs that she painted onto canvas. Since my bedding set doesn't come with any wall hangings or anything, I'm thinking of commissioning her to paint some for me, based on the dinosaurs in the pattern. I think they would be really cute, but I don't know how much I should offer her for them. I guess I'm getting a little ahead of myself because I don't even know if she'd do it.

Toast and traveling

At what age and/or milestones did you introduce zwieback toast and biter biscuits? On the box, it says not to give it to them until 10 months, but I seem to remember people introducing them earlier than that. I've tried giving him puffs, but he's not interested in the least.

Has anyone ever taken a trip with a baby on a train? We're taking the train to Chicago on our way to the Hockey Hall of Fame in June, and we will probably be getting a roomette. If not, would I have to pay for a seat for Owen to put him in his carseat? Even with a roomette, I don't know how we're going to fit Owen in there, because there is literally room for a bed and nothing more; his Pack 'n Play probably won't fit. I could use some guidance, thanks!

Blink and you'll miss me

Goodness, I haven't been around much this week, sorry! Nothing really new or exciting is going on; I just feel like I don't have a lot of time for posting. I usually only get on the computer in the morning while Owen is rolling around on his playmat, and then in the evening after he goes to bed. But this week has been different for some reason. Last night, my dad was here after Steve and my brother's hockey game, because they went out to a bar to have a little team get together.

Owen is being a little pill right now, but I can't blame the kid. He's working on 3 teeth right now. Last week, he just had the one coming through, but two more have decided to join him over the past few days. He went to bed late last night because of the hockey game, at around 9:30, then woke up again at 10:30. After that, he slept straight through until 7 this morning, hooray! However, it's hard enough to get up with him at 8:30 (I know, I'm lucky), so this morning was a little rough. I put him in his swing, put on Baby Einstein, and took a nap on the couch.

Owen is crying for me right now, so I'd better wrap this up. I've gone to two moms' meetups for one group, and I really like them so far. I have my first meeting with the other one today, the one that stood me up. We're going to the Discovery Science Center, so that should be fun.

More books and more stuff

* I was feeling brave today, so I bundled Owen up in his stroller, and we walked to the library and grocery store. It was cool outside, but sunny, so the 15-20 minute walk wasn't too bad. When we left the library, I noticed that some clouds had moved in, and when we left the grocery store, it was really overcast and windy. Later, when I dropped Steve off at work from his lunch break, it was pouring rain.

* Speaking of rain, I LOVE this weather right now. We got a couple of really nice downpours tonight. Unfortunately, I'm going to assume that my other moms group meetup is out, because it's a picnic in the park.

* I finished my 4th book yesterday, and got 5 more today. Here's what I got:

Shopaholic Takes Manhattan by Sophie Kinsella
The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
Every Secret Thing by Ann Tatlock
Snow Angel by Jamie Carie
Daniel Isn't Talking by Marti Leimbach

* I also bought the book Light on Snow by Anita Shreve. If anyone has any opinions on any of these books, I'd love to hear them!

* I cannot keep a bandaid on Owen's finger to save my life! He's gone through 4 bandaids since yesterday; they just won't stay on, which makes applying Neosporin much more difficult. I just keep cleaning it, and dabbing some Neosporin on it. I hope that'll do the trick.

Wut thuh phuk?!

* I recently joined 2 moms groups, and have been nervous about going since I'm so shy. I finally decided to do it today, and when I showed up, no one was there! Granted, I was about 15 minutes late, but I would have to think they still would've been there. It was about an hour roundtrip of driving. That sucked.

* I picked Steve up for lunch today on the way back from said failed meetup. When we came home, Steve's dad was in our house. He's working on building shelves in the garage, and had come in to use the bathroom, but it was a little freaky having someone in our house.

* Owen cut his finger today on our tape measure. We're in the market for a new couch, so we were measuring the room, and Owen grabbed onto the tape measure. He played with it for a minute, and when I took it away from him, I noticed his finger was bleeding. It didn't bother him any, so I just washed it and Steve put a giant bandaid on it.

* I put another bandaid on Owen's finger because he bled through the first one, and he almost swallowed it! We were at the furniture store, and Steve grabbed it just in time.

* We really want to get a sectional couch, but we don't really have the room because our living room isn't wide enough. We went to a furniture store and saw this:

Isn't that funky? It's totally weird, but we love it. We're currently trying to figure out if it will work in our house.

* That's totally weird about Heath Ledger. I wasn't particularly a fan or anything, but he's not one of the ones I'd peg to die young.

* Kellie Pickler was on Ellen today. They played a clip of her on "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" and good Lord, was she an idiot. I'm not trying to act like I'm a genius or anything, but it is generally known that Europe is a continent, not a country. Yikes.

Social butterfly

I actually saw people this weekend, amazing! My good friend Marcie came over on Saturday to hang out for a little bit after getting her hair done. It was so nice to see her, as it had been probably 3-4 months since we last hung out. She had a blast with Owen, and Owen just loved her to death, it was so cute. Then yesterday, I went to a baby shower for Steve's best friend's wife. Since Owen can't be far from the tap, I was only able to stay for about an hour before leaving. But then when I got home, Owen was asleep in the swing, and slept for another hour, so I could've stayed longer. Oh well.

Now for the real reason we've all gathered here today - picture time! )

Bang bang!

* I actually woke up pretty easily this morning for my doctor's appointment. Not bad for someone who is dead to the world before 10am. I think I spent more time changing my address, phone number, and insurance information than I did with the actual doctor, which is par for the course. He didn't like the look of one of the bumps on my chest, so I have to wait a couple of weeks to get the referral to see a dermatologist. Stupid HMO.

* I went to Gymboree after getting back from the doctor's and ended up buying all of the items I listed in my last post, woo hoo! I spent $125 without the Gymbucks, which I think is the most I've ever spent in one trip there. I realize that I could've waited a month or so for it all to go on sale, but I had Gymbucks to burn, so I did it all now. I was smart and got each outfit in a different size so that he could wear the line for a long time. The little two-piece green outfit is 6-12 months, the top and overalls is 12-18 months, and the long-sleeved shirt and cargo pants are 18-24 months.

* The potato soup ended up being pretty tasty! I didn't like the smell of the dill weed (anyone else think of Beavis and Butthead when they hear those words?), so I thought the soup was going to taste like ass, but after I put in some salt and shredded cheddar cheese, it was quite tasty. Steve had two huge bowls of it, so it was a success, hooray!

* I could swear that Owen called me Mama today. He was lying on his bear rug, and I was standing up next to the couch, putting my hair into a ponytail. I was looking away from him, and he was whining a little bit, when all of a sudden, I heard him say "Mama," clear as day. Crazy!

* Poor Owen got kinda burned by his bath tonight. I crank the kitchen faucet to the hottest setting so that the water could heat up faster, and when Owen was sitting in his bath seat, his foot touched the stream. I was in the bathroom (Steve was with him), and I heard the most awful scream from him. He was fine a minute later, but I felt bad for the poor little guy, he sounded like he was in a lot of pain. There was no redness though, so Steve thinks it probably scared him more than anything.

* Going to get my hair cut tomorrow, eek! I don't know why I'm so nervous. It's only hair; it will grow out if I hate it.

Woo hoo!

Owen only took one short 30-minute nap today, so he went down for the evening at 7:15, woo hoo! We'll see if he actually stays asleep for more than an hour. Poor Steve didn't get to see much of him today; it's a good thing we picked him up for lunch.

I have a doctor's appointment at 7:45 tomorrow morning, early! I asked for the first appointment of the day, so that Owen wasn't sitting in a cloud of germs with me. I really don't have anything against germs, but I don't want to deal with a sick baby, so I'd rather keep him away from all the sick people. The receptionist sighed at me when I asked for an early appointment. Sorry, if my kid gets sick, do you want to take care of him? No? Well, neither do I.

Anyway, I'm going to see the doctor to get a referral to see a dermatologist. The last time I went was about 3 years ago; bad, I know. I called about a year ago to see the doctor, but he was no longer with the practice, and I just didn't feel like dealing with it. I've had these little lesions on my chest that itch and hurt, and I know they aren't good. I've just been too afraid to go to the doctor and find out that it's something bad. Obviously, putting it off just makes it worse, but logic doesn't usually win out over irrational fear. Wish me luck!

I have an appointment to get my hair cut on Friday at 10am. I really hope that goes well. I'm afraid I'm going to hate the cut, because I haven't cut my hair short in years, and when I did have it short, I didn't really like it.

Tomorrow, I'll be making a potato soup in my crock pot that [livejournal.com profile] karlatta posted in the crock pot recipes thread on CC. I'm hoping it turns out good!
