Owen is 8 weeks old today!

Me - Doing great. I'm wondering what I should be doing during the day with Owen. I regrettably admit that I have the TV on all day, every day. I talk to him a lot, I hold him, I dangle toys in front of his face, I put him in his swing, I read to him (not as often as I should), and I do tummy time with him. I guess it sounds like a lot, but it doesn't always fill the day.

Steve - He's so awesome. He worked 12 hour days all last week, and he has to this week too, but he still makes time for Owen. Yesterday, he took Owen in the morning so that I could sleep a little more, which was so nice. He told me again last night that I'm doing a really great job as a mom, which I thought was so sweet!

Owen - He's awesome too! He's smiling and cooing all the time, I love it! His sleep patterns at night are getting pretty predictable, and this morning, we slept in until 11:30! He got up at around 7:30, and like a bad mommy, I just let him lie in his PNP since he wasn't crying. I got him at 8, fed him, and we went back to bed. He also does this funny thing where he laughs in his sleep. He never laughs when he's awake, but he will coo while smiling, so I don't know if that counts as a laugh. His laugh sounds like he's gasping, and that's what I thought he was doing, but he always has a smile on his face when he does it, so it looks like he's laughing in his sleep, it's so funny!

These are some pictures that my mom took of Owen when he was 1 month old.

In the bouncer that we used when we were babies (my mom recovered it):

Real men suck pink pacifiers:

Daddy's so ashamed!

Should I be worried if his eyes do this? I know being cross-eyed is normal, but this isn't cross-eyed:

Fun with props:

Woman, where's my dinner?!

Sorry these are so dark!

What a big boy! I have the same dilemma of what to do with the baby during the day. I pretty much do what you do, but it definitely doesn't fill up the day. Curious to see what others say!

He sure is! He has a doctor's appointment next week; I'm so curious to see how much he weighs now.

Btw, did you do anything to readjust Owen's nighttime sleeping patterns? I know right now I should just let D sleep and eat when he wants, but just wondering if I should do anything to get him to move towards sleeping longer periods at night. (Wow, I never realized how obsessed I'd be with a baby's sleeping...)

I didn't do much to adjust Owen's sleeping schedule. He was pretty good about his days and nights from the start. During the day, the house is bright, the TV is on, and I don't try to be quiet. At night, the lights are down, or off, and we keep things quieter. When I feed him in the middle of the night, I try not to interact with him, so that he knows it's not time to be social.

Isn't that adorable?! I love how awesome Steve is being. I always joked that I would be the worst mother ever, but Steve is very quick to discredit that.

Aww, those are great pics! Wow, 8 weeks already! Ali is laughing in her sleep too so thats definitely what it is! Im considering taking Ali for 6 week pics but I remembered with LC he was more smiley at 8 weeks so Im wondering if 8 weeks would be better. Did you get a smile from Owen? How old was he?

Ok, thanks! Ali will be 5 weeks on Wednesday but she's just starting to smile regularly, like atleast a few times a day where she gets smiley, not every time I talk to her though. Maybe I should shoot for 7 week portraits but thats an odd number! ;)

Thanks! I'm really happy that he's made such an effort to spend time with him. Even if he comes home from work really cranky, he'll put on a happy face for Owen.

I love how you're doing the pics in the same chair each week. I did get this funny image in my head when seeing this one though (probably because it was the first one I've seen where he seems to be really supporting himself well on his own) of him at like 14 with a ticked off expression on his face! LOL!!! :) That would be SO hilarious!

I don't think his eyes are a problem, as they don't seem to do it all the time. Could just be a lazy eye. I had that when I was born & I think they put a patch over the stronger eye so the weak one would get stronger... and it did! You can't even tell now.

Yikes on the Steve crotch shot! ;)

Hahaha! "Owen come on, just sit in the chair for your 14-year picture, it'll be cute!"

Yeah, sorry about the crotch shot, haha!

Aw how cute! He is getting so big! I can see both of you in him.

Parker used to do that with her eye and its totally normal. Her eyeballs moving around in all different directions but she stopped doing that after awhile

Cute pictures and videos! He's getting so big!

As far as suggestions on what to do during the day, do you have the My Baby Week by Week book? They have suggestions every week that you can do with babies (play, etc) that are appropriate for their age. I also recall seeing a lot of similar info on the Babycenter weekly updates. All sorts of things that I hadn't even thought of, and several that I had (ie: letting them play with their reflection in the mirror).
