Next summer, Steve, Owen, and I, along with my family, are going to Toronto to visit the Hockey Hall of Fame. We'll be taking a train to Chicago, then driving up through Wisconsin to visit friends and family, and then through Minnesota and into Canada. Because of the new restrictions, we all have to have passports to enter Canada. I have a passport from when I went to Europe 10 years ago, but it has since expired. I just dug it out so that I can renew it, and I noticed that there are no stamps in it! I've been to 8 countries in Europe, and nothing to show for it, so weird! The only stamp in there is from US Immigration, when I entered the country again. I guess it was because I was on a tour bus the entire time, and they just glanced over them to make sure we had a passport. Bummer, I wanted some stamps!

Whereabouts in the state is that? We're going to be going to Green Bay (my brother is a Packers fan), Wausau, and then to a couple of smaller towns towards Eau Claire.

We are about 15 miles west of Milwaukee.

No where near Green Bay (2.5 hours), Wausau (3.25 hours) or Eau Claire (4 hours)!!!!

up through MN...so I take it you're going through Duluth and then driving up through Thunder Bay and out east from there? Wow, that's going to be a crazy long trip!! You're brave to do that with an....18 (?) month old.... :) FYI, Duluth to THunder Bay is at least a couple of hours (I went to college in TB), and from there it's like a 13 or 14 hour drive, I think, to Toronto.

Heheh...my passport doesn't have any stamps either...

Um, sure lol. We haven't actually mapped it out yet, but I do recall seeing that we would have to drive through Duluth. Owen will be just about a year old at that point, so yeah, it will be fun :p.

Very cool you're making a trip to the hockey hall of fame!

My passport has some stamps, but I got really annoyed when they would overlap over another stamp. I contemplated asking the next person to be sure to stamp in a blank area, but Mike thought that was a bad idea, so I didn't. I know what you mean about wanting something to show for your travels!

It was my brother's idea, and since we're all hockey fans, we all decided to go, it should be fun! I'm totally bummed that I have no stamps. I didn't even realize it.

Let me know if you need anything to help with the planning. I'm from Toronto, and I now live 1.5 hours north-east, in Peterborough. Hockey town, home of the Petes :)

Unless you really really enjoy the scenic route, I'd try to come up through Buffalo or Detroit.

Well, the reason we're going up through Minnesota is because we'll be taking the train into Chicago and then going up into Wisconsin. Rather than backtrack again, we had planned to go through Minnesota, though I guess we would be backtracking either way. Hmmm...

Thanks for offering to help! I'll keep that in mind as we start to iron out the details.

they'll do that in Europe. They stopped stamping passports when crossing borders within the EU about 15 years ago. I'm from there and have traveld to several countries multiple times and have nothing to show for it.

You'll love the HHOF, I just went there this year for the first time.

That sucks about not having the stamps, that is the coolest thing about passports.

Yeah we've got to get ours too. With the process time, I think I better get pics done now and then send in the app.

Yeah, send in your apps soon. There's a long backlog. My coworker is in the Galapagos Islands now and it took her about 4 months to get her renewed passport back. She had to call her congressman several times to have them help her out. I'd probably lie and say your trip is sooner than it is otherwise they'll push it back.

Lucky!! I want to go to the Hockey Hall of Fame! (I know I don't talk hockey as much as some of ya'll do but I'm a big fan... Red Wings & Devils) Anyway, that sounds like a nice trip! I never considered taking a train somewhere. Maybe that's the perfect way for little Ms. Scaredy Cat of Planes me to see the country! :)

Haha, Red Wings and Devils are probably the two teams I hate the most! We'll be traveling by train because Steve won't fly, so I'm sure it would be a great way for you to see the country! Steve has taken it before and he loves it.
