Baby shower stuff

My first shower is coming up on Wednesday, hosted by Steve's work, yay! There are going to be 27 people there, so it's going to be the biggest one by far. I think they're all coming because their boss is letting them off a half hour early to come over. No matter to me!
There is, however, one thing that terrifies me. I HATE, with a passion, opening gifts in front of people. I'm a pretty appreciative person, so I always appreciate when someone gives me a gift, but I always feel like I have to overreact or something, know what I mean? Steve knows how much I hate it, but he says he's going to make me open them all! I swear to God, I will kill that boy, especially because I'm not going to know a lot of the people at this shower! I told him last night that he needs to help me, and he said that he would hand them to me, and that's it. Turd!
My second shower is coming up on the 6th, hosted by the moms, and is my family shower. This one looks like it's going to be pretty small, and I was bummed about it initially, but I think I'm good with it now. We invited my cousins from Phoenix, and I was really hoping they would come out, especially since Steve and I went out there (a 6 hour drive) to my one cousin's baby shower when she and her husband adopted a baby boy, but no luck. Plus, there's all this drama with my aunt and cousin right now, so I highly highly doubt they will be there either.
My final shower is on May 19th. My friend has heard back from 4 people so far, all saying no. I didn't invite many to this one in the first place, because I had originally planned for my mom to host family and friends at her shower. But one of my friends very kindly stepped up and offered to throw me a shower, so I thought it would be way easy to just divide them into family and friends showers. But now I'm worried that hardly anyone will show up to my friends shower. Before I start to sound gift-hungry, it has nothing to do with gifts at all. I just feel like if no one shows up, they don't care about me, which is so stupid and wrong, but I'm pregnant, so humor me :).
In other news, next week is going to be a crazy busy week! There's a Ducks game on Sunday (away, but we'll probably go to the watch party), my brother's birthday on Monday, our first childbirth class on Tuesday (and another away Ducks game), the work shower on Wednesday, a doctor's appointment on Thursday, and a home Ducks game (if necessary) Thursday night. Yikes!

Date: 2007-04-27 11:16 pm (UTC)At this point, so much work has been done on both showers, it wouldn't be the best idea to combine them now. If the friends one ends up being small, it'll be okay :). I talked to my mom today and there are about 16 people coming to the family shower, so I'm feeling better about it :).

2) if the setting allows, pass the gifts around (especially the little clothes, and the oh-so-soft blankets) so everyone can ooh and aah over them. Bonus, this takes a few eyes off you!
3) comment as much as you can on the gift itself, rather than your feelings about it - i.e. say "what a great little hat!" or "that will be so handy" rather than "I love it" or "I think it's cute!"
You don't have to overreact, but I understand how that feels. It gets harder at Christmases and birthdays when your kid's too young to open a gift herself so you do it, then try to look excited on her behalf as you show it to her and hope she looks excited too. ;)
