Steve's co-worker Shannon (who has also become a good friend of mine) is going to be moving to the Las Vegas area in July because her husband Chris got a job offer out there. Steve hatched a plan to ask his bosses if he could take over her job and get compensated for it, instead of having the district go out and hire another person. Shannon went into their boss' office yesterday to plant the seeds, and the immediate supervisor seemed to be pretty into it.

Today, it got even better. Steve went in this afternoon and talked to his big boss, the director of financial aid. She told Steve that she likes what he's done to help that program, and that she knows she needs to pay him more to keep him around. So she's going to open a supervisor position for him at that campus! He'll still be doing the job that he's doing now, as well as taking over Shannon's job, but he'll have the title of supervisor. If you've been around for a while, Steve has been wanting the supervisor position at the other campus for a long time, but they've recently put someone else there as the interim director, and chances are pretty likely that this other guy will get it when the position actually opens up. With this, she can have directors for both campuses, which also puts Steve next in line for the deputy director position when his boss retires.

This is so awesome you guys! They're going through a department reorganization right now, so it couldn't be a more perfect time to get the ball rolling on stuff. God willing, he'll be a supervisor by July!

So, does Steve have an accounting degree?

Thanks!

Steve actually has a BA in Psychology, but also an AS in Math. He wanted to go back to school for accounting, but found it too difficult to balance work and school.

It's interesting where we end up, despite our degrees. :)

I have a degree in English and Spanish literature and always thought I'd be in academia. Instead, I read legal briefs all day.

No kidding!

I have a BA in speech therapy, and ended up becoming a surgical tech instead, which I also went to school for. And now, I don't do anything!
