Construction project
Aug. 21st, 2007 04:48 pmOur house is tiny. No seriously, it is. They managed to cram a living room, 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a kitchen, a laundry room, and a dining room into 1048 square feet. Over the past few months, Steve and I have been looking at the real estate market, and checking out open houses to look for a new home. We've also been receiving emails from our realtor when new houses go on the market.
After seeing only a few gems in a saturated market, we've decided to stay where we are, and just add on to our house. We need at least one more bedroom, one more bathroom, and a bigger living area. Adding a bedroom and bathroom would be simple if that's all we had planned on doing, but in order to open up the living space, we basically have to gut the house and start all over, leaving up the exterior walls. Because the garage is in the back of the house, we have to make sure we leave the driveway alone, so that cuts into our available space.
Does anyone know or live with someone who works in contracting or construction? I'm curious as to what a project of this magnitude entails as far as cost and time. I wanted to find out from someone here before actually contacting a company for the information. We'd likely have to move the kitchen, and the bathroom, which I'm sure is a logistical nightmare. We're looking to go up to about 1600-1800 square feet on our 5000 square foot lot if possible.
