My appointment
Dec. 13th, 2006 02:09 pmI had my appointment at the new doctor’s office today. It ended up being wonderful! The office staff was nice, and the nurse practitioner that I saw was awesome. Thank God they weren’t as bad in person as they were on the phone!
We got to the office right at 10, and sat in the waiting room for about half an hour, which was my only real complaint. After peeing in a cup, and then having to pee about 3 more times after that, they finally brought me back. My weight was 144, so I think I’ve gained about a pound or two so far, and my blood pressure was an astonishingly low 92/70! It’s always been around 110/70, so I was shocked that it was so low. I was put in a room, and after having to pee yet again (I drank a lot of water this morning just in case they were going to do an ultrasound), I got changed into the cute paper outfit.
The nurse practitioner walked in, and I felt comfortable with her right away. She was just such a nice lady. She kept me covered while doing all of the exams, which I really appreciated, because I’m rather modest. She said my cervix looked great, my uterus felt good, and that I have perfect nipples for breastfeeding! I’m sure you’re all thrilled to know that ;).
After the physical exam, she busted out the Doppler, and we got to hear the heartbeat! It took her less than 5 seconds to find it, but during that time, I was nervous that she wouldn’t be able to find it. Then we heard it on the left side, just beating away, nice and strong! What an amazing sound that is.
After the exam, Steve got a chance to sit up on the table, haha! He doesn’t know his blood type, and because I’m O negative, it’s kind of important to know what his is. So he got up on the table and they took a vial of blood so that they can type it. We should find out by the end of the week.
After that was all over, we sat with the nurse practitioner, and we went over our medical histories. She also asked about what kind of testing we wanted to do, as far as Fragile X, cystic fibrosis, and AFP. We’re definitely going to do the AFP test, because of an incident in Steve’s family. If insurance will cover it, we’re also thinking about doing the other two.
Speaking of insurance, we have awesome insurance! When all is said and done, as far as the doctor’s office is concerned, we’re only going to have to pay about $350 to have this baby! I’m sure it will be a little bit more when they factor in the anesthesiologist and all that stuff, but all of my prenatal visits, the doctor for the delivery, and ultrasounds are included in that $350. Sweet!
