Books and stuff

* I went to the library today and got 4 books. I've apparently set a lofty goal for myself, to finish 4 books by the end of January. I got Confessions of a Shopaholic, Night Swimming, How to Be Cool, and The Last Boy. Anyone have any comments about any of the last three books I listed? They just jumped out at me, and I'm hoping they're good. I started Confessions of a Shopaholic already. I'm about 60 pages in and love it so far.

* Mr. Owen is asleep already and it's only 8:20. He went down at about 7:45, which is uncharacteristically early for him. Looks like Steve will be joining him soon. Poor guy has been putting in a ton of hours at work this week.

* Saturday night is Blue Man Group, woo hoo! I'm very excited, but also a little apprehensive, as it will be our first baby-free evening since Owen was born. Yeah, just a little late ;). I'm sure he'll be fine, but he's used to being nursed to bed, so I won't be surprised if he's still awake when we get home.

* I'm proud that I've been eating a little healthier lately. Even though I'm still having fast food, I've been getting chicken soft tacos at Taco Bell, which are nothing but chicken, lettuce, and cheese. No sauce or anything. I've been cooking more, and adding more fruit to my diet. Yay me!

* I was interested in joining a mom's group that I read about in Parents magazine, and I have yet to attend a meeting or other event. You guys probably wouldn't know this about me, including those of you who know me in person, but I'm very shy, and don't do well in social settings. Plus, I'm afraid this group will be so high school and clique-y. I know I'll never know unless I go, and I seriously don't know what I'm so afraid of. Bah.

I'm the same way about social settings. That's why I'm hesitant about joining a mom's group, too. I feel like it will be jr. high all over again.

We haven't had a baby-free evening yet ourselves, so it's not just you. :)

Okay good, I'm glad I'm not the only one!

"our first baby-free evening since Owen was born"

whoaaa. my eyes just popped out of their sockets!!

LOL! I've been away from Owen before, but no more than an hour at a time or so. But yeah, our first baby-free night :).

I set a loft reading goal for this year too. Sounds like you are doing better than me already though!

Good luck with the mom's group. I would really love to find something like that.

I hear the blue man group is awesome! Have fun.

Thanks! I'm already through one book, and halfway through another. I guess the goal of 50 books in a year isn't so unreasonable.

Mom's groups are hard...so don't get discouraged...I am very extroverted and had a hard time going to Mom's groups when I was out on maternity leave. I think being a new mom makes us feel even more vulnerable and judged, if that makes sense.

Enjoy the blue man group (I was also a mom that never left Ashley with anyone).

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels weird in those things.

Sophie Kinsella is an awesome writer...I have really enjoyed all of her books so far and they are really quick reads! Good luck with finishing all 4 of them!

Hey, D and I never went on a baby-free outing after having R until she was almost 1 year!

I am the same way as you are with the mom's group thing. I never joined any when I was off on maternity leave as I was so nervous about it all.

Thanks! I feel better knowing that I'm not the only one who had a hard time leaving the baby behind, and the whole thing about moms groups.

Darn, LJ just totally lost my post for the first time ever. How annoying. Here's a recap:

shopaholic=good I want to read the baby one (it's a series so there are a bunch of them)

me=also shy. I hate talking about myself and I think it makes me look snobby when I'm trying not to be snobby and self-absorbed. I need some time to warm up.

[identity profile] stevesbabygirl.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I didn't know there was a baby one; I bet that would be a really fun read.

I thought you were shy when we met down in La Jolla that one time, but I didn't think you were snobby at all. Then again, if you were, I probably wouldn't have known because I wouldn't shut up long enough to notice :p.

I loved the book Shopaholic! Fun and easy read. I got Shopaholic & Baby at Borders with my South Coast Plaza gift cert a couple weeks ago and look forward to reading it.

Instead of getting the chicken soft tacos from Taco Bell (which I find rather gross now), get their Ranchero Chicken Soft Tacos. MUCH MUCH tastier!! They're alfresco style and sooooo yummy. 170 calories apiece and I got my boss hooked on them too. He's always taking off for lunch to get himself some "rancheros".

Hey, you should've come to the car seat inspection yesterday. I only got to meet one mom from C.C. (not that CC)- (I think it was Andrea?) and had officer Walker check out Tyler's car seat to specs. Anyhow, the mom I met was very nice, probably in her late 30's and very nice & easy to talk to. I don't know how many of their events I can make it to, but from the sounds of it they're pretty nice so far. I also joined some local mom groups from Meetup.com and the ones I've met so far are super cool. You should tag along with me one of these days to one of their park or mall or discovery science center excursions. You don't have to be shy w/me. ;)

Steve gets the Ranchero tacos too. I tried it once but didn't like it because I don't like the salsa.

I can probably count all the times that I have had a "night out" since Leo was born. It's really sad. LOL. One of my new years resolutions is to have more me time. I have no excuse since Noah will take a bottle! :)

[identity profile] stevesbabygirl.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
We, as women, deserve more nights out!
