I support gun control, but I love bullets

* Thursday afternoon, my friend Marcie and I went out to lunch for her birthday. Shannon and Steve had mentioned wanting to go to lunch, so we all ended up at the same restaurant. Funny coincidence, and we didn't even end up sitting together.

* Thursday night, my brother randomly showed up at my house. I asked what he was doing here, and he said that he and Steve were going to the Kings vs. Ducks game. Steve had totally forgotten, and was already in his pajamas. He got ready in a hurry and off they went.

* Friday afternoon, my parents came over so that my dad could work on the new cage he's making for my iguana.

* Friday night was Marcie's birthday party, so Steve asked my brother to go with him to the Sharks vs. Ducks game. I had a great time at the party, though everyone kept telling me how tiny my belly was. I ended up not getting home until 1am. I'm such a party animal :).

* On Saturday, Steve and I were out and about. We went to Sam's Club and spent $90 on diapers and wipes, yikes! After Sam's Club, we hit Lowe's and bought a new showerhead because ours cracked.

* We went to Babies R Us and ordered our nursery furniture! I thought it would be a good idea to order it early because I had heard that it would take 6-8 weeks, but the style that we ordered will be arriving in 7-14 days. Oops. We also wanted to order our glider and ottoman, but they were having problems with their system, so they're supposed to be calling us today and letting us know what's going on with it. We're getting a Dutailier, and I can't believe how ridiculously expensive it is!

* Sunday, we were up early for Steve's soccer game, which they lost. In the afternoon, my parents and Steve's mom came over to talk about contributing to the furniture fund. My mom didn't think we needed a dresser/changer and an armoire, but I made the argument that we have no storage in this house, so I needed furniture to store things in, like bath stuff. She accepted my argument, so each set of parents is going to pay for one of our dressers, score!

* Sunday night was Ducks vs. Predators. We were never in the lead the whole game, and we ended up going to overtime. We couldn't score in overtime, so we went to a shoot-out, which typically means certain death for us because we suck at them. But miracle of all miracles, we won!

* Steve called me today to ask me to go to the hockey store and get him a new goalie stick. I asked what was in it for me, and when he asked what I wanted, I told him that Owen needed some more clothes. I'm such a brat :).

Oh my, you drive a hard bargain, hehe. :)

[identity profile] stevesbabygirl.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I sure do :). He says I have another $100 to spend.

[identity profile] granada.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Just don't tell my DH. He still picks up my drycleaning and doesn't ask for anything in return. :)

[identity profile] stevesbabygirl.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Bwahaha :). I probably deserve more than $100 though, because picking up those hockey sticks was a pain in the butt. Apparently, my definition of the way a blade curves is different from his, which led to a lot of confusion.

Target usually has good prices on diapers and wipes. So does 1800diapers.com. I keep hearing how Costco and Sam's Club have such good deals on formula, diapers and wipes, but haven't been able to find the diapers & wipes that we use there.

[identity profile] stevesbabygirl.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I'll have to check out that website, thanks!

I wanted to ask you something. You have the same collection that we ordered. How did you decide on ordering both the armoire and dresser/changer? I mean, what kinds of things do you put in each, besides clothes? I noticed that Tyler's room has a big closet, just like Owen's.

[identity profile] rancid13.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
We decided to get both b/c we had gotten so many clothes at the shower and wanted to maximize storage space. In the changing table/dresser we keep extra bags of diapers, wipes and an extra changing pad cover (in the little cupboard-type space), clothes (the leftmost 2 drawers-onesies in the top drawer and sleep clothes in the lower one), extra blankets (bottom drawer), diapers for immediate use (top right drawer), safety kit/grooming kit & receiving blankets (middle drawer on the right).

In the armoir, the big part we keep all feeding supplies on the bottom drawery (bottles, formula, extra parts for the breast pumps, etc) and bath stuff in the top portion (towels, washcloths, soap, shampoo, etc). Hats & shorts in the top drawer. Sleep & plays in the 2nd drawer down. Bibs & burp cloths in the 3rd drawer down. Booties, a few extra blankets, and outfits I didn't like in the 4th drawer. I designated the bottom drawer as the toy drawer.

We don't keep much in terms of clothes in the closet, maybe 20 separate items: overalls, a few sweaters, jackets, tshirts, etc. I also didn't put any 6+ month clothes in any of the furniture yet as we didn't/don't need it yet. Those sized clothes are boxed up and on a closet shelf. Hubby keeps his DVD collection in one side of the closet, and we have a bunch of other stuff taking up some of the rest of it (Peg Perego stroller I haven't been able to use yet, free stuff from the hospital, and just random shit that I didn't want out in the open, LOL). :D We also have the toy chest, which sits empty right now but serves as a table top next to the glider/ottoman with books and magazines and a lamp on it.

[identity profile] stevesbabygirl.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Cool, thanks! We can't use half of our huge closet either because we have stuff stored there, so this helps a lot! The only clothes I've purchased so far have been 6 months and up, and I didn't realize that the smaller stuff would be taking up tons of room. I can't believe these tiny things need so much stuff!

[identity profile] rancid13.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
We actually hardly bought any clothes for him, we got 95% of them at the shower, at Christmas, or randomly from family/friends. I've bought a handful of sleep & plays b/c they're so simple and easy for me to get on/off compared to actual outfits (onesie or tshirt w/shorts or pants). We're not using a bunch of clothes that we received, just because we've stuck with the same 10-15 outfits until last week when he moved to the 3-6 and 6mos sizes and we're starting out with another set of clothes that we'll rotate.

[identity profile] stevesbabygirl.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
I shouldn't be buying any clothes, but I keep finding cute stuff that I have to have! That's why Steve gave me an allowance :p.

I actually buy my diapers at Wal-Mart. The cheapest I've found around here for Huggies (the only kind my kids can wear). Except when I find the bigger boxes at Target. I wait till they clx them and then buy em all!:) But I do want to caution you on buying too many. You'll prob get bunches as gifts plus as I said before, my kids can only wear Huggies. They fit them the best and won't leak. My SIL can only use pampers.

[identity profile] stevesbabygirl.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I bought the huge packs from Sam's Club, one in each size, just to see how we like them, so we probably won't buy more until and unless we need them. I bought a box of the 1-2s and a box of the 3s. The smaller ones came 216 in a box for $34, and the 3s came 160 to a box for the same amount. We also bought a giant box of wipes too, and I have a few packages of newborns.

[identity profile] mwright626.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Glad to read you are getting a glider! I love mine and try to recommend them to all new moms. I don't know what I would do without mine :) I also recommend not stocking up on too many diapers. I had a bunch of Huggies (all gifts) but Braeden is a Pamper's boy!
Yay for shopping :)

[identity profile] stevesbabygirl.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
We were going to get one that was cheaper, but when I sat in that chair, I was done. I had to have it :). I probably won't buy any more diapers than what we have; we bought some of those huge boxes and I'll just wait to see what we like. I bought Pampers, so I'm hoping those work out!

[identity profile] kmfroggi.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
hahaha!! love that you smoodled for more clothes for Owen!! hehe! you go girl!

[identity profile] stevesbabygirl.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
I have single-handedly taught that boy the art of compromise. I'm so proud of my efforts ;).

[identity profile] rancid13.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah and with the diapers, if you end up with a bunch of opened packages of diapers that you can't/don't need and don't want them to go to waste, there's a shelter in Tustin that will take donations. We got a TON of diapers at the shower and ended up only being able to use Luvs for the first 2-2.5 mos b/c of leakage probs with Huggies and Pampers (and a few store-brand). Here's their info: http://www.operationoc.org/donate/donate.htm

We donated 3 unopened packages and like 6-7 opened packages and got a receipt for around $75 for the donation. And we had only purchased one of those packages ourselves. ;)

[identity profile] stevesbabygirl.livejournal.com 2007-03-06 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh that's awesome, thanks for that!

[identity profile] sweetjezebel.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You have an iguana? Are you planning on keeping it after the baby is born? I only ask as I used to have one myself (well, actually it was my boyfriends but anyway...) I am a big fan of them but I learned when we had ours that there is a danger of salmonella poisoning, particularly to babies/children who have iguanas in the home. Have you heard about that before?

[identity profile] stevesbabygirl.livejournal.com 2007-03-07 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, I've had her for about 5 years. I do plan on keeping it after the baby is born. I figure that salmonella is a risk, but she lives in a huge cage (once it's finished!) in our office, and she doesn't get out of the cage a lot, so it's pretty contained. Plus, there is salmonella in raw eggs and raw chicken, so that makes me feel better for some reason, I don't know :).

[identity profile] sweetjezebel.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm... well, I guess whatever you feel is best for you. Personally, my child would be my primary concern. I read quite a few articles on it last night after writing to you (just google "iguana" "salmonella" "children") and many of them said the risk is there regardless of if the child comes in contact with the iguana or not and even if it always stays inside a cage (which I could never do to an animal-- I mean, have it in there constantly)

And yeah, there is always a CHANCE of salmonella in raw eggs & chicken (it's not true it's ALWAYS there) but that stuff gets cooked out of both of those. To me, I see it like letting your child play around an area that is smeared with raw eggs. It could touch that area that is smeared, it could not. And if they do touch it, they COULD get sick or they COULD NOT. But why risk it?

Just my personal opinion.... I'm definitely not telling you to get rid of your animal. I'm very much an animal lover. I don't know... it's just a scary chance to take.

[identity profile] stevesbabygirl.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I guess it's the same as having a turtle or a small lizard as a pet. Reptiles in general are known to have salmonella, but not every single one has it. I could find out if my iguana has salmonella, but from what I understand, it's an invasive test, and I don't want to put her through that.

Thanks for your concern though, I appreciate it :).
