More than I bargained for
Feb. 17th, 2005 09:25 amMy hospital field trip was pretty cool last night. I saw a penis! They were prepping this guy for an appendectomy, and as I was looking into the window, I saw it. Apparently, my shocked reaction is uncommon. I know that when I’m working in a hospital, it’s not going to be a big deal, but come on, how often do you actually see a stranger’s penis?! I also saw a guy undergoing knee surgery too. That’s not going to be fun to wake up from, ouch. We got to walk through empty operating rooms, the sterile supply room, the instrument decontamination room, the suture room, and the scrubbing areas. All in all, it was a very cool experience. One of the students set up for a mock procedure, but he took FOREVER, so we didn’t get out of there until about 9:45. I was exhausted from being on my feet for four hours straight, but it took me forever to settle down and get into bed when I got home.
This morning, I woke up with a nasty headache. It’s on my right side, and it starts behind my eye and wraps around the side of my head. I keep wanting to close my eye, but I don’t want to look like a pirate. One of my co-workers suggested that it is probably a migraine, but I don’t feel completely incapacitated. I thought that when people got migraines, they couldn’t do anything but lie down in a dark, cool room. I do have quite a few of the symptoms that sufferers endure, but I’m just not sure. Could it possibly be a migraine? The pain is on one side of my head, I feel fairly sensitive to bright lights and loud sounds, but I don’t have any nausea or vision disturbances. It seems like I have some vision problems, but if I close one eye, I can see out of the other one just fine. I don’t know.
