Steve wasn't feeling too well last night, so he did us both a favor and slept in the guest room last night after failing to fall asleep in our room. He woke up this morning looking like hell, but was determined to go to work because he had to get some stuff done. He could barely walk to the couch, so he had me call his work for him and tell them he was sick.

Not wanting to get sick, Owen and I went to our moms group meetup, where I happened to run into [livejournal.com profile] luvbeingamommy. We all watched a little kids show, and I had lunch with my group. I asked the girl I meantioned last night if she would be interested in painting some pictures for me, and she said yes! I'm totally excited. She said that she paid about $50 to make 2 of hers on a really nice canvas, so I figured I'd pay about that much for each on a less expensive canvas. I'll have to iron out the details, but I'm so happy that she's going to do those for me.

* The other day, as we all headed down to my parents' house, I saw a car driving with a foot-deep pile of snow on the roof. Mind you, this was about 5 miles from the ocean, so it was a little out of place. Obviously, they were on their way back from the local mountains, but it was just so strange.

* Speaking of strange, we've been having some crazy weather lately. Torrential rains, sunshine, and tornadoes. Gotta love California. I'm thrilled with the rain though; we really need it.

* Steve and his dad have finished the garage, yay! They put up 3 massive shelves, and installed two fluorescent light fixtures. Very nice.

* Owen's top tooth is slowly working its way out of his gums, and he seems to be in pretty good spirits.

* The moms meetup for today has been canceled because of the rain, boo. I'm really happy I found this group, and I'm wondering if I should even bother with the other one. We have a meetup on Thursday, so I guess I'll see how that one goes, and decide from there.

There are seriously a lot of pictures in here )

I actually saw people this weekend, amazing! My good friend Marcie came over on Saturday to hang out for a little bit after getting her hair done. It was so nice to see her, as it had been probably 3-4 months since we last hung out. She had a blast with Owen, and Owen just loved her to death, it was so cute. Then yesterday, I went to a baby shower for Steve's best friend's wife. Since Owen can't be far from the tap, I was only able to stay for about an hour before leaving. But then when I got home, Owen was asleep in the swing, and slept for another hour, so I could've stayed longer. Oh well.

Now for the real reason we've all gathered here today - picture time! )

Owen got up like 4 times last night, which makes for one sleepy mama. I'm lucky that I don't have a kid who wakes up at 6:30am everyday, but even still, I have such a hard time getting up in the morning. Usually Owen will sleep until about 8:30 or 9, but today, it was like 7:45, blah. He's sitting in his high chair right now, eating some banana in his mesh feeder because the avocado wasn't going over too well today.

I joined yet another mom's group (actually, I tried to join 2, but I don't know what happened with the other one), and now my inbox is getting flooded with meetups, yikes! Plus, they're a little further away than the other group that I joined. But Jennifer [livejournal.com profile] rancid13 is in this one, so I thought I'd go on the days that she's going so that I have someone to talk to.

There's a cute little boy behind the cut! )

5 weeks!

Owen is 5 weeks old today!

Me - Feeling great still, though the healing granulation tissue can be irritating. I've also had a headache every day for the past 4-5 days, blah.

Steve - Loves his new responsibility of giving Owen a bottle every day. He told me the other night that he hates being away from us all day when he's at work, and feels bad that I have most of the responsibility of taking care of him. Of course, I don't mind.

Owen - Cute and growing! He still isn't fitting into most of his 0-3 month clothes, minus the Gerber onesies. He can also still fit into newborn diapers, even though they only go up to 10 pounds. The size 1 diapers are pretty big on him. He has a terrible fussy time from about 7:30-9 every night, which can be frustrating. I hear it peaks at 6 weeks, so I'm looking forward to being past that soon.

Portraits

I'm thinking of having Owen's portraits done tomorrow after my appointment, but I don't know where the best place is to take him. Between Sears, JCPenny, and Kiddie Kandids, which do you all prefer? Who has the best prices, best props/backgrounds, best overall deal? Thanks!

ETA: Do all of these places offer proof sheets? I saw that Kiddie Kandids will give you a CD of all your shots, and I'd love that.

4 weeks!

Owen is 4 weeks old today, wow!

Me - Feeling great! I have my 4-week postpartum checkup this Wednesday. I have no idea why they do 4 weeks instead of 6, but okay.

Steve - Feeling bad because he thinks Owen doesn't like him right now. It breaks my heart that he thinks that.

Owen - Staying awake for longer, and lots of fussy time at night, leading him to want to eat (and make Steve think he doesn't like him).

3 weeks!

Owen is 3 weeks old today!

Me - Feeling great! If I overdo it, then I feel a little soreness, and I have very little spotting right now. On the whole, I'm very happy with how my recovery has gone. We took Owen on his first real outing this past weekend, to the Orange County Fair, fun times! I even NIP'd for the first time too, go me!

Steve - Doing well being back at work. Owen makes a lot of little baby grunting noises at night, which keeps Steve awake, so I try to take him out in the living room to let daddy get some sleep.

Owen - I love him!!! We see little smiles on him all the time, which I'm sure are gas smiles, but look like he's really up to no good. I think he's hitting his 3-week growth spurt because he wants to eat all. the. time. He still likes to cluster feed too. I guess he's just a grazer or something. He's been getting more fussy in the evenings lately, which I expected, but it's frustrating sometimes. He can usually be soothed with some boob though, but it makes it difficult to do anything else, like make dinner or clean house. Luckily, Steve took him for a little while when we were working on de-cluttering our kitchen.

Us - Our relationship has been awesome since Owen was born. I was really afraid we would get so wrapped up in the baby that we wouldn't have any energy to devote to the two of us. We've been talking more, and in general, we've been happy. That's a big relief.
